Massachusetts Institute of Technology moved up two places to No. 1 in the world, according to the 2012/13 QS World University Rankings, followed by University of Cambridge (down from 1st to 2nd in 2012), and Harvard University (down from 2nd to 3rd in 2012).
A total of four UK universities made it to the top 10 list: Cambridge (2nd), University College London (4th), University of Oxford (5th), and Imperial College London (6th). The University of Edinburgh
is the highest ranked institution in Scotland (ranked 21st globally),
ahead of University of Glasgow (2nd in Scotland and 54th in the world).
National University of Singapore (NUS) was ranked 25th in the 2012/2013 QS World University Rankings,
up three spots from its 28th placing last year. NUS improved its
position in nearly all the indicators measured, including the number of
research papers published and citations generated. The University was
ranked 9th globally for academic reputation and 14th for employer
reputation. Improvements were also made in faculty areas as follows:
Arts & Humanities (11), Engineering & Technology (9), Life Sciences & Medicine (11), Natural Sciences (13) and Social Sciences & Management (10).
